Etsy, Inc. is a publicly traded U.S. e-commerce platform known for connecting buyers with handmade, vintage, and unique items via individual seller storefronts. As of 2024, it supported over 8 million sellers and 96 million buyers globally, with revenues exceeding $2.8 billion.
A 2024 investigative report from the Institute for Journalism and Social Change (IJSC), Global Justice Now, and War on Want revealed that Etsy hosts at least 44 shops located in Israeli settlements, including Ariel, Maale Adumim, and Tekoa, territories deemed illegal under international law. Etsy earns revenue from these sellers through its standard fee structure. The ICJ reaffirmed in 2024 that Israeli practices in the occupied territories amount to apartheid.
Etsy responded by saying it has shared these findings internally and stated a commitment to screening sellers against sanctions, but to date has not removed the listings.
